I need to hear something everyday. If I don't hear this, I begin to live out of fear, out of lack, out of anger. If I don't hear this, I close up, turn away, live as though I'm homeless and lost. When these words are uprooted from my heart, the demands on my time take over and I become distracted from who I am and what I'm to do. I need to hear these words because they bring be back, they remind me, the calm my heart.
Every morning when I sit to pray and read and reflect, there is a little slip of paper that falls on my lap when I open my Bible. It's says this:
"You belong to the Father, Son and Spirit. You always have. You always will. He loves you and likes you. You are his beloved child."
These words have the tender ability to refocus my attention on the reality of my life in God's eyes. I am not what I can do, I am not my successes or failures, I am not my bank account (or lack thereof), I am a child of God.
Only a child of God can find true peace, rest, hope, joy, and faith. Only a child lives open handedly and bravely in a world that would rather we fight with fear. I'm also learning it takes new eyes to see others who need to be reminded that they, too, are children.
Today, may you know that you belong to the Father, Son and Spirit. You always have, you always will. He loves you and likes you. You are his beloved child.
