One of our partners from day one was Erns. He attended our very first Aquaculture seminar in January of 2018, which was put on by Jeff and our aquaculture consultant, Randy Bevis. In the seminar, Erns scribbled pages and pages of notes. As a farmer in the Haut Limbe area of Northern Haiti, Erns was familiar with the traditional methods of farming, but aquaculture was new to this part of the country. And Erns was here for it.

Lake Ridge in Haiti
From the kids right up to the adults I was struck by the golden hearts of each generation. On a walk we went we met a young man named James, he was 19 years old and in his last year of high school. There are a few things about James that stood out to me. First, his English was terrific and this allowed me to really learn more about him and hear a bit of his story.
Jeff, Aquaculture expert/Lake Ridge staff member has inspired a real sense of community with the farmers who are participating in the Aquaculture project. We are discovering every pond has a story. Most recently, a new young man who was passionate about aquaculture and wanted to start a pond, but did not have enough money to own land.
Well I’m not even sure how to begin a follow up post like this one. How about this, you never get to choose when your heart will be broken, again, again. Two years ago, on one of my trips to Haiti a little boy with diabetes captured my heart and then promptly broke it. I blogged about it at the time (read the story) and have thought often about that little guy.
I have been blogging every time I have come to Haiti since 2016. With all the awesome coverage on Facebook Live, Instagram and Facebook on this trip I have been trying to write a blog for a couple of days and always felt I was falling short of something that was coming from my heart. Today it hit me. We had such a great day in our Fish-Farming Ministry.
