Haiti has been an important place for Lake Ridge since the very beginning. Several of our people have been and fallen in love with this place and the people. Our hope is that we can continue to share the story of the people, the country and the work we are supporting.
Aquaculture is a way of raising fish in enclosures or ponds to be consumed or sold as food. In 2016, Lake Ridge started the journey to explore aquaculture in Northern Haiti. We have hired an enthusiastic young leader, Jeff Philocles as the aquaculture expert to encourage, train and support the start up of local farmers and groups to start their own farms. The goal is to teach and train farmers to produce fish as a sustainable source of food and income. And it’s working! Currently, we have several partners who have started farms!
Haiti continues to be an area where we find deep joy and often experience life transformation. Some of our friends at Lake Ridge continue to lead and attend trips and share their experiences. You can find stories of experiences and insights below.
We have grown strong connections with our friends in Northern Haiti and Aquaculture is an opportunity for Lake Ridge to specifically empower leaders in Haiti through our time, talent and financial support. Our larger family of churches, the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada also is closely connected to this work and supports several projects in the same area.
